International Day- 2006!

Greeting my lovelies... I hope you are all well and had a good weekend. Mine was absolutely fantastic! despite the groggy weather. The highlight being my church’s annual ‘International Day Service’,  a day set aside to celebrate diversity. I worship at Lighthouse Chapel Intentional and we have over 2500 branches worldwide, so imagine the buzz!. Last year I represented Asia and this year I was waving the flag up high for Kenya. My ohhh my!!! what a fun filled day! I wish you were all there. The atmosphere was electric, full of life, laughter  an array of performances from plays, dances, contests, food, costumes  you name it. I am still aching from all that screaming and dancing. Here are a few snaps from it, pardon me! I actually had heels on then changed later on into my slip-in sandals. What did you'Z get upto?

Hues of Sunshine!

Hues of Sunshine!

When asked what my ideal start to the day entails?! It’s pretty simple, away from home necessitates waking up to the smell of sea, clear skies, crisp air and sunny rays but when faced with reality, the best mornings includes beams of light piercing through my bedroom curtains, the weather alert confirming my hopes of a beautiful day, and some quality devotional time . It perks me right up!, and probably not just me! Studies show sunlight increases serotonin levels, which in turn may make one happier. Days like these call fora nice off the shoulder top and stripped culottes. I am currently loving these two types of silhouettes, so airy, comfortable and classy. Let me just say: ‘this is one of my best- loved shoot to date’. I switched it up by adding these tasseled heeled sandals but one can also tone this look down teaming it with some metallic brogues, mules, sandals or sneakers! Remember it has to be in ‘metallic’ if you want a trendy polished finish. What do you reckon?

Shop Picks -Mules N' Lace-Up Pointed Flats.

My shop pick share this week goes to mules and lace-up pointed flats. When it comes to new staple purchases I love taking my time ensuring I get the best offer, deal and quality for my money plus it has to be a versatile piece. I am not a believer of just buying because’ I like it’. It has to be practical!  Be it now, or in the latter. This is one of the many lessons I have learnt along the way, otherwise you get caught up in the system of spending which when faced with ' reality'  results in poverty, debt and so much more. Instead of keeping up…Live within your means right?! Before you shop, have you saved? Do you need it? Is it a worthy treat? Ohkayyyyyy!!!..Let me stop! I will be sharing more on this in a new post because this topic is really close to my heart and I want us all to do well in life,  and not live foolishly because we would all rather have the finer things in life.

It took me months to find the perfect pointed flats, I came across many but none really had me love struck till one rainy evening in West End. Ohh ‘Zara’ you really are one of my beloved stores. I was heading home but needed to grab some jeans for my coming holiday. That’s how I came across these babies! Left pondering on whether I can have both, I mean look at them right?!! So justifiable, but sadly I had to snap out of it and opt for the most practical ones so I ended up taking home the black pair. The first day of wear I teamed it with some grey loose jogger like pants, a smart white crepe top and leather jacket. This is one of the many ways to style it. I will also be wearing it this weekend with some leather pants and a light monochrome asymmetric tank top!.

My other shop pick is none other than ‘ Mules’.  They come in different variations but often tend to be backless with height or flat soles. I’m yet to purchase some because I need to exhaust all my options in finding these H&M Conscious Exclusive Collection Mules In silk. Why the heck did I not pursue them when I set my eyes on them? Sighs. I saw pictures of them floating about on social media but couldn’t figure out where they were from till now.

With that said I also love the below,  so It's time for me to figure out which ones I will go for. Look out for how I styled mine!

Have a Beautiful Weekend my Lovelie.. and to all my London loves, let's hope for a rain free and Sunny One :)

Comfy Trench'N!

Comfy Trench'N!

Firstly, Happy New Month lovelies. Can you believe it?!!! We are basically half way through the year. Time surely does fly. I woke up this morning  in reflection mode assessing my productivity and goals attained to date. I see progress, some slower than others. This can be a tad bit demotivating but one thing that quickened in me was, ‘just because progress is slow, it doesn’t necessarily mean productivity is void’. But that is not excuse for laziness, reality is, ‘ something’s just take time’. Sow now reap later!!. Comforting, only if you know laziness hasn’t mastered you.

I look at it this way, everything starts as a seed, be it your time, money, energy etc and for a seed to grow and birth good fruit it takes time amongst other important factors such as climate. Point is, we reap what we sow, so with each new day, aim to make it count. Do not allow yesterday’s damper hinder today’s progress.

Today’s share is all about ‘Trench Coats’, can we just take a moment to applaud this genius make. Trench coats are undoubtedly a timeless wardrobe essential every girl should have. From the streamlined silhouettes, array of fabrics, lengths and versatility in fits, there’s one for every woman. When it comes to styling, the possibilities are endless. My take on this occasion was based on the  need for simplicity, easy accessibility  fused with a playful edgy finish. Hence, the contrast with print and colour. As much as I love fitted clothes, loose fit pieces reign supreme in my closet especially on days I don’t want to feel trussed up. Can you relate?!

Tips! -Re-wearing your closet!

By now we all know 'Style' is not bought. You need to create your own! Finding what works, flatters and makes you- you! There’s tons of Inspo out there but with time, you learn to master you! So despite the continual evolving of trends and my love for trying new things, I always know what will, and will not work. I absolutely refuse to be a sucker to trends, truth is some trends are absolutely abysmal. With that said I often purchase items I can style together to create different looks because realistically I cannot afford to buy new clothes each day nor can I even justify such splurges!. To me, it’s just not wise. However on the contrary, if I see a timeless piece, I would eye, invest, mark it, and we know how that ends rights..?! I buy it.

Some of my most expensive buys have been bought at a marked down price!! It’s not sheer luck!! It’s grace lol. As I type, I’m currently wearing a grey hairy wool coat that was initially £75 but got it at £45. Today’s look share is an example of finding the most wear out of something, the outfit is exactly what I wore in the previous post with a slight alter, ‘the burnt orange coat’. Which gives off a totally different vibe to the camel coat.

My top 3 tips when it comes to mastering the art of ‘Re-wears’are:-

1. Invest  in staples - you can never go wrong with that, instead of spending on lots of random items, but the basic essentials first, then build up your closet. White tees, denim jeans in various style, neutral to monochrome palettes. Focus on hues you love and what your style comprises of.

2. Invest in quality - honestly, quality over quantity any day!! It’s best to spend a few    more pounds knowing the wear is better. I shop literally all-over. Having studied 'fashion and textiles' I’m that girl that will be inspecting fabrics and labels. I must admit this doesn’t necessarily mean only buy from high-end brands, you can find some good quality gems in lower market shops. Can I just add:- ‘ Live within your means’ if you can only afford to shop somewhere, don’t feel any inferior. Just ensure you look for items with good wear.

3. Style your pieces - this I can’t stress enough. Styling an outfit your way, goes a long way when It comes to the finished look. E.g tucking in, rolling up sleeves, adding a statement necklace, wearing chunky or subtle earrings, injecting colour, bright lips/ hair do, adding a patent handbag or clutch with pumps, a pair of oxfords with a high -waist pants and a tucked in tee, statement heels with structured pieces, folding the cuff of your jeans, adding on a blazer, layering up, the list is endless. I trust you get my gist now, it’s the little touches that finish a look!!
