Summer Essentials 'The Boater Hat'!

Summer Essentials 'The Boater Hat'!

Hello my lovelies, I hope you’re all doing great!.. Sadly, here in London, things haven’t really been pleasant, to say the least!. From last weeks terrorist attacks to a week filled with rain, wind and cold shivers, and now the ‘election debacle’, I say ‘London living totally sucks right about now, but we will push through with our heads up’!.

So as we await those sporadic sunny days which naturally lifts up everyone’s mood, or start holiday prepping, I have to talk about this essential ‘ the straw hat’, an accessory every girl/bloggers needs!. These hats are meticulously crafted, giving comfort, ventilation and total chicness. Trust me!- you will thank me later. I got mine from H&M last summer.

Now, before you go grab your preferred style, you want to get value for your money, so go for one with thinner straws and tighter weaves. Typical Me right!- I have a thing for detail and I just can’t help myself,  but the truth is you end up getting more wear and a gorgeous smooth texture, which is a win all round! My fave type of straw hat is the ‘ boater’ I love the firm brim crown, and with the straw plaits done thinly and tightly they give off a structured nautical vibe which I love. Be sure to check my ‘ Get this look ’ at the end of the post so see my shop picks.

6 Steps To Healthier Natural Hair!

6 Steps To Healthier Natural Hair!

Kicking off this fresh month with talks on ‘natural hair care’. This is not my routine! I’ll share that with ‘you’z’ in the latter. As per usual, quick story! I’ve been natural for over 5 years give and take. Initially I was hooked into the world of ‘naturalistas’. I big chopped twice! Tired ever brand I watched good reviews on, read blogs, bought more products, Repeat! Repeat! Repeat! I spent so much investing in my hair and Yes! I did see results. I loved the fact my hair was longer, thicker and healthier and in my pursuit of preservation, I got webbed into ‘protective styling’ from wigs, weaves and braids. I did that for a few good years, give little to none TLC to my hair thinking all will be well plus It was super convenient.

It took a long time for me to realise I had only gone and screwed up all hard work. So, last year I was tempted to relax my hair, but my fellow ‘naturalista’s’ forbade me!!

I then decided this year I will give my hair the love it once used to have, that last push to restoration and if all fails! I will be dancing into 2018 with relaxed hair.

With that the below are things I have vowed to do this year and I will update you all on my progress and give a more detailed routine in months to come.

1.      STUDY MY HAIR TYPE!

OK! This doesn’t mean diving and obsessing into vigorous research. I really believe in that mantra of ‘less is more’. Once you know what your hair loves, stick to it!. However, you do need to know and study your hair texture, type, porosity etc before trying out products. Understanding your hair will help you achieve your hair goals.

2.      LOOK AFTER ME!

This is paramount in life, when it comes to your hair factors such as stress, lack of a healthy vitamin and protein based foods, dehydration ( water) play a part in your hair health and as they say:’ Your exterior is a reflection of your interior’ so I have introduced healthy lifestyle changes and so far, so good!

3.      WASH!

I have stopped using shampoo, reverting to natural cleansers only when I feel I have build-ups which is evident in how your hair takes to style manipulations. Some of these include: clay rinses, acv rinses, bicarbonate of soda rinse but only limited to natural opts!

4.       DETANGLING!

Right! so I know there’s a ton of friendly detangling options we naturalista’s love from the famous ‘Denman brush’ to wide tooth combs but I have scratched all these using only my fingers to detangle my hair be it before or after my wash regime! Even now with my crotchet braids in, I only used a comb to part the cornrows but the rest was left to my fingers, starting from the ends to root!

5.      CONDITIONING!

This is my favourite thing when it comes to hair care. I have gone back to basics        incorporating more natural opts! This was a tricky one as some leave-ins, conditioners, and deep conditioners despite being somewhat not natural are unrivalled, so I refuse to ditch some of my fave products but rather mix them up more with natural DIY’s.

6.      SCALP CARE!

The therapeutic part of this all. I used to always grease my scalp, especially if I had a headache but days later my scalp would start itching like crazy! So, I decided to rather go for a water based solution which makes a massive difference. I now DIY my scalp hydrators with only natural & essential oils, conditioners or natural tea mixes. I also ensure I make time as frequently as possible to just massage my scalp stimulating blood flow, lubricating my scalp and sebum production which relaxes my scalp and aids hair growth! Truth is your scalp doesn't need greasing as it produces its own oils but for some greasing your scalp is a necessity for scalp treatments which I would say still do.

I have been doing this since January and noticed a difference in just 2 months, even my nephew was like; ‘Aunty your hair looks nice’ and coming from a kid you know there’s truth in it!.  I currently have crotchet braids in but after a few more weeks I will let my hair breathe and get some TLC for a good month before anything else. My aim is to leave my hair out more and look after it more. Let me know if there is anything you have changed in your hair regime that you find has been amazing!

Pleats N' Velvet!

Pleats N' Velvet!

So mixing knits and skirts is not my first call when it comes to winter dressing but I am starting to sway more towards it. For some odd reason, my legs never gets as cold.  I have what I call ' ravers legs' lol meaning...I have legs like that girl you find ' club crawling' in her high heels and a short number and doesn't ever shiver! Gone are those days though. However, these days I would only do midi in the winter as I prefer being dressed weather appropriate.

As you all know I am a big fan of simple and comfortable clothes, so this chunky knit is perfect. I wanted to wear my ankle boots as I love the velvet feel but to avoid looking off, I wore this textured pleated skirt which worked well to give a 'smart cazh' finish. Not many get this look but I love it :) call me ' the stylish granny' lol.

GRWM!- 2017!

IMG_9095.JPG

Firstly, happy holidays my lovelies. Hope you all had a great break and with the new year fast approaching, time to reflect. I sure did! and still is....counting my blessings, being grateful for how the year transpired be it good or bad and most importantly planning for 2017! I'm certain there's hundreds of posts and videos floating on social media on ' how to have a productive year', ' how to plan' etc so I will not get too much into it but rather conclude saying preparation is key in this lifetime, be it for those long-term or short-term goals, so pen them down, speak positivity, apply and acquire knowledge, and trust me!! Do not  just sit there and set ' realistic goals', AIM HIGH!. We are children of an omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent God, and that confidence should make you ponder on the fact :- ' Impossible is nothing with God'. Be active, listen to wisdom/ direction, and be courageous. With that said, I wish you all a super duper amazing 2017! A year that will blow your minds away in every good way:).

Before I say 'shalom'! I want to say thank you all soooo much for all your support and love, you have seriously been the engine that kept me going and my heart is full :). May you all be blessed, loved and supported a billions times more. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!! lol in a few days...

Lots Of Love

Styling Gingham!

As promised, I am back with the styling gingham post. Void of delays lets dive right into it. The last post featuring this piece showed how I wore my skirt as a dress. Today’s share is about variations to this trend. So here goes my favorite variations…

Let's start with me of course!! :)

- Teaming your gingham skirt with an off the shoulder top.

-  Mixing gingham with a window pane print, or structured co-ord silhouette.

image.jpg

-  A Toughened look by wearing a leather jacket over your gingham.

image.jpg

-  Tying your buttoned- down gingham shirt at the waist, teaming it with a midi skirt or teaming a white shirt with a structured gingham skirt.

-  Pair your gingham trousers with a solid top and bright shoe or gingham with some pop of colour.  Alternatively layering your gingham dress up top and bottom for a more cool street vibe.
